Before you buy
- Check the plug types used at your destination.
- Read the voltage input printed on your charger or appliance.
- For high-power appliances, confirm wattage and voltage compatibility.

Choose a travel adapter based on the socket type used at your destination, and check your device voltage separately.

Start with the destination, not the product. A universal adapter can be convenient for multi-country trips, but a simple destination-specific adapter may be smaller and easier to use when you are visiting only one socket system.
Use the TripPlanning Power Plug Guide to see which socket types are listed for your destination. Some countries use more than one plug type, so confirm the places you will actually visit rather than assuming one adapter covers every outlet.
Look for an input range such as 100–240 V on chargers and electronics. If your device supports the destination voltage, you generally need only the correct plug shape. If it does not, a plug adapter alone is not enough.
Hair dryers, curling tools and other high-wattage appliances deserve extra care. Even when a converter is marketed for travel, check its supported voltage, wattage and appliance type before use. When in doubt, using a locally compatible appliance can be simpler than relying on a converter.
Count the devices you will charge at the same time and check whether your adapter has the USB ports or outlets you need. For international trips with phones, laptops and camera batteries, one well-chosen adapter plus the original device chargers is often easier to manage than several small adapters.
